Thank You Eileen

For saving my life. Literally.

When I returned from Seattle last month I was befuddled. I had allowed my blood sugar to get too high. It was over 1000 according to the hospital. I was there in ICU for 5 days while they brought me back from the brink.
Eileen recognized that I was not myself when we talked on the phone.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:
  • Dehydration:
Very high blood sugar levels (above 1000 mg/dL) cause the kidneys to work harder to remove excess glucose and water through urination. This can lead to severe dehydration if not addressed promptly.
  • This is a serious condition that can occur when blood sugar levels are extremely high, especially in individuals with type 2 diabetes. It’s characterized by severe dehydration, confusion, drowsiness, and potentially seizures.
  • Circulatory Collapse and Kidney Failure:
If HHNS is not treated, it can lead to life-threatening complications like circulatory collapse, acute kidney failure, and loss of consciousness, potentially leading to a coma.
  • This is a medical emergency that requires immediate hospital treatment.

In summary: Very high blood sugar levels, especially above 1000 mg/dL, are a medical emergency that can cause severe dehydration, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state, and potentially life-threatening complications. Prompt treatment is crucial to prevent irreversible damage and complications.

Thank goodness Eileen recognized that I was in trouble. If she had not acted and taken me to the hospital I may have died. My kidneys had shut down. I live alone and if I had not been treated immediately, it might have been fatal. I was on the verge of loss of consciousness , coma, and death. She saved me.

Eileen has been a super travel companion over many trips around the world, and now she has saved my life, THANK YOU Eileen.
