New Years is just around the corner!!

Note from Amy:Hi all, We’ve had several requests for pictures, so I thought I’d send a few along.  We hope that your Christmas was a happy and peaceful one. We had a fantastic Christmas… Sarah was in heaven with all her wonderful presents from friends and family (and “Santa!”).  She had such a fun time.  We all did! Christmas eve we drove out to the mountains in search of snow and reveled in it.  Here’s some proof : ) Love to all,Darren, Amy, and Sarah

Christmas is around the corner!

Me playing Santa, Wayne as Mrs. Santa, Joe and Nathan as my elves! Ash Christmas party.

Note from Jim:

Two Weeks Before Christmas!

T’was two weeks before Christmas, And all through Iraq,
The people still worried that Saddam would be back.

The soldiers went out on their nightly patrol,
Capturing the bad guys was always their goal!

With raids seeming endless in the triangle Sunni,
We hoped that not all of Iraq was so looney!
We gathered the tribe of Saddam,  in Tikrit,
And suddenly now they  all started to snit!

They told of a farm where Hussein just might be
Odierno then called on our boys- from the great 4th ID!
More rapid than Baathists our soldiers they came,
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name

Now Delta, Now Rangers, Now Cavalry too!
On Green Hats, on Pilots, I need all of you!
Go to that farm and secure it right now!
Capture his butt – you guys know how!

Off went our soldiers under cover of night,
So stealthy, so quiet with no trace of light
While we back at home were eating our lunches,
Our boys on the ground were following hunches!

And then it was time for the raid to begin.
The first target came up -empty within!
Could it be our Intel was wrong once again?
No! Somewhere nearby is the wolf in his den!

And then, in a twinkling, camouflage torn away
In a hole in the ground did their quarry lay
Dazed and confused, right at them he looked,
Did the stupid old fool know his goose was now cooked?

He was dressed all in rags from his toes to his head,
And his beard was as matted as 12 day-old bread!
How the mighty had fallen, could this be Hussein?
One look in his eyes was to know he’s insane!

Our boys got their man – how proud we all are
The relief in our country is felt near and far
A bath he has had now -yet he’ll never be clean
Forever tainted with mass torture and his Fedaheen

To our soldiers we give our undying respect
You always give more than we ever expect
We hope you can have now a night with some fun
Your loved ones back home say- JOB WELL DONE

Note from Darrell:

This is just a quick note just to ask everyone on our mailing list to
keep two of our kids in your thoughts and prayers during this holiday
season. If you get a moment, please drop a card, letter or email to them
to encourage them. Being away from home during the holidays and with the
possibility of being put in harms way, they both would love to get
letters of encouragement. Even if you haven’t met them yet, they would
appreciate a little note from you. We can’t tell you how proud we are of
them and the sacrifices they are making for our country. So please take
a moment and write them.

Closure at last!

Saddam Hussein Captured!

“WE GOT HIM” were the words from Ambassador Paul Bremer

General Sanchez: “God Bless America”.

I woke up to the news at 6:15 this morning that Saddam (looking like a dark Santa Claus) was captured 8 PM last night, “like a rat” in a hole underground, outside a rural house 10 miles south of Tikrit. 600 soldiers conducted operation Red Dawn where Wolverine 2 found Saddam beside a metal lean-to and mud hut in a “spider hole” 6-8 feet deep, $750,000 was found with him.

Donald has a web page where he keeps pictures and data about his flights with his hang glider! http://www.donherrick.com

He has a neat new picture up:

I just got this picture from a friend of mine. That’s me at Hull Mountain, about 3 1/2 hours north of San Francisco, at the end of September this year. You can see a small airstrip near my knees. We camp and land near that airstrip. I think the photographer did a very good job.

Hey dad,

Everything is good over here. I am staying in a tent I share it with 14
other guys. Its not bad. Its bunk beds and there is 2 wall lockers about
2 feet from the bed and I share it with another guy. He sleeps on top
since I out rank him. We are able to seperate each set of beds by a rope
and blanket which makes a partition, so its like sharing a room that is
6ft by 4ft. Its not bad. The weather is nice 70’s in the day 60’s at
night.

I work swing shift like at home we are all working 12 hour shifts 6 days
on 1 day off ( 6pm -6 am). It’s like ground hog day! I wake up @ 3pm,
hit the gym till 4:30, go back to the tent, shower, eat chow with the
guys, get on a bus and go to work…and the same thing the next day.

If you hear about bombs being dropped in Afghanistan or Iraq by an F-16,
its us. The pilots told me they see raids down below as they are air
support for the ground troops and actually see raids on their monitors.
It feels good knowing we are finally are doing what we are trained to
do! I even wrote a few messages on the j- dams (bunker buster bombs)
like “tampa represent” and “turn it into a parking lot”

I’ll take lots of pictures and when I get home I’ll send some to you. I
miss Jody and the girls a lot. I talk to them 2 times a week for 15
miutes each time, but it’s not enough.

The Middle East is exactly what you see on TV. I forget what grass looks
like, nothing but sand and rocks. We are 8 hours ahead of the east
coast,

Anyways if you want to send me any pictures or whatever you can do so
through this address.

Hey just to let you know we just dropped our first bomb over
Afghanistan. It hit a shack that was shooting off mortars at our ground
troops. When the jet came back it was a big fiasco. Pictures and hand
shakes. Of course they got in way of me and a few guys trying to tow it
back to the spot, but it was cool. You might even hear about it on the
news!

Well I love ya, tell everyone I said hello and I’ll hit you up later
…. love ya
