William Austin was also known as “Bill” or “Will” Austin and referred to by earlier historians as the `famous Indian scout.’ His only known child, William, Jr., was captured as a small boy and raised by Indians. William, Jr., would have been about five years old when King Philip’s War broke out in June of 1675, at Swansea, Massachusetts.
