August 18, 2024

Manatees, manatees, manatees!! I do not know how many, they kept popping up everywhere, beside me, behind me, all over! A great day watching them! I would guess 20, but I have no idea, they were surfacing, rolling, pairs of them up at a time with their noses together.  So fast though!

His nose looks very much like a cow's nose!

Another wonderful day. Lots of birds out and getting food for breakfast. I found a second life jacket – this one was floating over by the island. I do not know who has lost them, but they are virtually new.
Half of the morning the sun was obscured by puffy white clouds, so my photos are not so good.

8-3-2024
An amazing day! First two dolphins fishing and dashing about! When they got close enough I got out my GoPro, it had footage from another day, but I decided to add this. Then as I got it going, the dolphin disappeared1 Gone.

So, I had a peaceful 2 1/2 hour ride taking photos of birds and dogs. Then as I reached the corner to head for home, the GoPro beeped. it was full and stopped recording.

30 seconds later, MANATEES! A herd of them! It looked like a mating event. But no film in the GoPro! So I strung together a bunch of stills into a video. It is 3 minutes long, so just close it when you have had enough. But it was an amazing half hour. I backed up to get away from the pack, but they came closer, so close they were a blur, I was pinned against the dock and they were right under and beside me! A big boat came to the dock to get pumped out, then the manatees disbursed.  What an amazing time.

8-1-2024

It was a normal quiet day until I was 50 feet from shore when I returned, then a pod of dolphins came around! They were dashing this way and that chasing fish, catching fish and throwing them 20 feet in front of them, and batting them 10 feet in the air! It lasted for about 20 minutes ! I was taking photos, two would thrash about 20 feet from me on one side, then I would see them under me and come up on the other side! Then in the distance two more would toss a fish toward shore, then on the other side a dolphin would bat a little fish way up in the air! They were at times too close for my camera, so I got out my GoPro, then they were too far away for the movies. I do not know how many but several distinct tails were spotted. Once one surfaced right behind me! They put on quite a show!
