9th child, 6th son, born in Charleston, Maine. Daniel Herrick went to sea when he was 16, about 1802. Married Jerusha Cole in 1815 in Charleston, Maine and had 6 children.
He carved the scrimshaw on the powderhorn (below). Inscribed; County of Hancock, State of Massachusetts, Town of Sedgewick, Daniel Herrick. Also inscribed with various animals, sailing ships and flowers.
