Old months (if you missed seeing what I had on the web page last month – or any month for many years – click here to go back in time!)

OUR ANIMALS

The real web page.

May 20, 2007

Well the sail today was called off because the captain was too hungover.

I had a great day yesterday at Darrell’s. We went horseback riding, picking wild black raspberries, target practice with the BB guns to chase away the squirrels. In general just a wonderful day.

This is Shawn riding his Clydesdale. Darrell had called Shawn to see if he would lend me a horse to ride. He was so very nice as to bring her by!!!!

Look at that feather over her hoves, she is a classic, reminded me of Beauregard, She was a fine horse to ride as well!!!

Below is Darrell and Marilyn’s new home – starting to take shape!

Below is one of Marilyn’s many flowers:

OK, what kind of a bug is this:

It is about one inch long. Brown wings and a blue body. The antennae are feathered like a moth

May 17, 2007 (continued)

Darn it, my camera was in the car. For the first time ever, I saw the yellow crowned night heron climb up in the mangroves, all their life they stay about a foot above the water, now here he was climbing! He hopped from branch to branch until he was about thirty feet up. Then he grabbed a bunch of dead twigs in his beak. He shook them again and again until they all fell. I guess they were not the right ones. I was sitting here at my desk watching, and my camera was in the car. So when he had dropped them all I got up to go down to get the camera and he flew away. If only I had had it at the ready! Yesterday there were two beautiful birds at the end of the road, and my camera was on my desk so I went up and put the camera in the car. I guess I need to tie it to my wrist!

Just got my schedule, I will be in Denver on May 22, 23 and 24th. Then will be returning to South Carolina on the 29th – for a month. I will be able to enjoy my newly painted abode (they are arriving to start it on the 21st) only for the weekend of the 26th!

May 17, 2007

I have hit the magic 235 (10 pounds lost) and my blood sugar level was a record low this morning – 128 !! Good news on both fronts.

Pam will be served today or tomorrow. Wonder what she will do. Glad to be rid of that mess (so far).
According to my friends, I had already lost 125 pounds, which I corrected to 300 pounds – when you include her son.

Writing about my alter ego is interesting, writing a “novel” does effect you. In the movie “Stranger Than Fiction”, the author was quite taken up by her characters. I can somehow empathize with her.

OK, some movie reviews:

Stranger Than Fiction4 of 5 This was a pretty good movie about an author who was writing a book – her books are about people who die unnecessarily young. Only this time she connected with a real person, and he can hear her as she thinks about what her character is doing (what he has just done). It has a nice twist at the ending. G – kids would not understand, but nothing to restrict them – no language or gore etc., no action either.
Night in the Museum4 of 5 This was slow at first, but had a good message, even though the plot was kind of “out there”. It was well played and was fun once it got going. G (kids approved – nothing but fun)
In Pursuit of Happiness4 0f 5 This was sad, but I could relate. All the troubles one goes through trying to get through this life. G (Again, nothing to deter kids, some running scenes, some angst, but mostly cerebral – sad.)
300 Spartans3 of 5 Such a big budget, but the acting and/or script was so-so. I was waiting to be able to relate to the characters, but they never seemed to materialize. The story was there, but they never lingered on the main characters long enough for you to relate to them. Maybe if the movie had been longer, or they had picked one character to center upon. The action was like in slow motion – maybe that was what actually it was like, but I would have liked to have gotten inside one person’s head rather than watch thousands slowly walk toward the other side, then get barely hit and knocked down and give up! Some gore but not really gross. PG
The Last King of Scotland4.5 of 5 but I do not know how they could have done it better! This was played very, very well: worth the Oscar. You could get inside of the character of the doctor, and feel what he felt, as well as get inside Idi Amin. Not for kids: sex and death. I was captivated, the story is so well done. I really liked this movie, the best action film I have seen recently. the sets were really great, the action well done. Parts of it are fictional, but it was very good. PG (not for kids – nothing for them, gore)
Smokin Aces3 of 5 You can forget this. A lot of explosions, bullets flying, drug use, many bodies, chainsaw, gore, maniacs, whatever. The story does has its twists and points of great acting, but seemed to be overshadowed by the mayhem and crazy people! R (not for kids – nothing for them, lots of gore)
Anastasia5 of 5 A powerful movie, very well done. A “who done it” with compelling drama. Was she or was she not? I was calling out “get a DNA test” at times, knowing full well that was not available. Maybe now? The movie had me laugh, cry, and just wonder. Who knows if she was for real, or just deluded (most likely) but it is a great love story. G but not much for kids.
DeJaVu4 of 5 Too much sci-fi. Way out there. The acting and abilities were there, the sets slick, but it was so far out that it took away from the plot. The love affair from afar was very well done, the acting excellent. Not for kids.
Good Shepard3 of 5 Too cerebral, too dark, too much unknown. The wife abandoned, the kid abandoned, and for what. I guess a divorce was not available back then. The plot was kind of feasible, but the movie felt so dark (intentionally). You wanted to grab the main character and shake him. Really nothing for kids.

“Stranger Than Fiction”

May 16, 2007 (cont.)

Well, here we are on the new – secure – site. I filed for divorce today. My reason? Pam had stolen a Visa card that I had not used in four years and used it to go on a spending spree. Enough is enough. She hated this web site because I told you, my family what was going on in my life. She said that she hated this home that we lived in – and that we had been robbed while we were here…….yes, we were robbed, by her son and his friends!!

I have lost 9.8 pounds, only 10 more to go! I am exercising and eating correctly, to the best that I can, no more sugar (or very little anyway – I had a taste of a homemade apple pie last Sunday as a treat!).

A local gallery is displaying some of my photographs!!!

When I took some of my photographs over to get them framed, the owner of the gallery liked them so much she asked me to bring over same more!
She loved the above three and decided to matte them, clear a space for them and display them – and in a very prominent space indeed!

Then she went back over the 100 photographs I had printed for her and decided she wanted two more negative images for a special place:

These will be the only photographs in the galleries!!

Last night while I was on my walk (I have lost 9 pounds so far) – some friends called out and asked me to come aboard a sailboat.
The sailboat was a 45′ Morgan and was very much like my 45′ Hunter! The galley and the nav station were reversed, but it was much the same.
It felt great being back aboard! We talked until late, then they invited me to go sailing with them on Sunday!!! This will be great!

Tuesday May 15 was quite exceptional, my photographs recognized and I get to go for a sail!

A photograph I took here today:

Darrell sent along pictures of their new home and a note:

The roof is going on! Our new home is shaping up and starting to look like a house.
These pictures were taken today (May 10, 2007) around noon.
They should have it completely closed in (doors and windows) within the next few weeks.
We are excited!!!

Don sent a picture of his new home (click on link to image below):

Here is a snaphot of my ‘new’ house in San Jose. You can call this the ‘before’ picture. The house has not seen any remodeling since it was built in 1959 (with features like the original furnace, a ‘bottle glass’ room divider, indirect lighting units, etc.). It has beautiful hardwood floors since they were always covered with carpet. But I plan on remodeling the baths, kitchen, etc. I’m also thinking of making one of the bedrooms a ‘media room’. It is a 4BR/2BA with attached two-car garage. I’ll probably close near the end of the month.

I have had a lot of company lately, the neighbors came over, Joyce needs work on her computer, Jim came for chess, and Holly and her brother came over. All at one time! Everyone was very enthusiastic about my photographs. I had printed out about 50 of them and they were a hit!

The smoke is pretty bad today, it blocks out the sun! It gives the water a gold hue though. The fires in northern Florida are pretty bad I guess.

Thanks for the new pictures of PETS from Tracey and Roger (see OUR ANIMALS above).

I am reducing the quality of all of the old pictures so that I can insert the new ones! They do not want to give me more room on the server without charging $50 more a month, so, instead of removing the pictures, the old ones will not be as beautiful but be there. Donald’s future home, the red tree is a Japanese maple:

A mullet boat just went by, too fast for me to get a picture though, oops he is back:

Sue and Don were here for the weekend; we went to Darrell’s on Saturday, Dad’s on Sunday, and Sue and Don came here Monday! I was excited to see my home. Pam and Bryce have vacated and now are living up in Dunedin, according to the “Dear John” letter she left behind. She left the house in the same shape it was in before she moved in, which was much appreciated.
