Today I call the Day of the Dolphin Deluge. I did not get photos of it because I was under the deluge! Three of my neighbors saw it and were astonished that I did not get turned over! They said that I just disappeared under the wake! They also said that the more than 8 foot long huge dolphin had caught the fish and threw it playfully. I did not see that part as I was facing the opposite direction and in shock! That was cold! Luckily it was near 80° and I dried out after two hours in the sun.
I was watching a dolphin going around the bay. At times he would accelerate and throw up a huge wake of water as he was chasing fish for lunch. He once went right beside me, a beautiful sight as he raced through the water. Then it happened. He was on my left when suddenly he raced right under my bow and all of a sudden I was soaking wet, head to toe. Soaking, soaking wet, even my camera and lens.
We recently went to an aquarium in Durban, South Africa and sat just behind the “splash zone”, but today I was IN the splash zone!
I once had a manatee soak me from the waist down when I startled him, he put more than inch of water into my kayak, but this was head to toe.
