August 2016 – Mount Katahdin hike 30 years later!

Chloe, Mike and me.
Our goal, it was solidly clouded in when we tried, but my boots cut up my feet and I did not make it anyway.
Our lean-to for the nights.
Not satisfied with climbing mountains, Chloe climbed the lean-to.
Down by the nearby waterfalls.
That water was COLD!
On the Appalachian trail.
Workers on the trail.
Above the tree line.
No, we did not see this moose on the mountain, that was on the road.

And we made it down safe, the only casualty was my boots.

Katahdin Hike 1983

Hike up the mountain Katahdin in Maine, the northern end of the Appalachian Trail.
Blane Paxton (Left) – Tracey (in back of Amy) said: “In addition to me, there’s Mike, AJ, and Jimmy.  I’m not sure if it was that hike, but I recall going up Katahdin when the mosquitos were so bad that I had a ring of bites around the top of my ankle socks, and blood spots on my socks where they’d bit right through!
In the rear are Mr. Coffin (Amy’s grandfather) and Dad (Ted Herrick – Amy’s other grandfather!).
Dad getting dinner ready the night before the hike.
Tracey helping with the food.
Tracey and Mr. Coffin helping Amy up a slippery spot.
Amy and me at the top!
Some spots were narrow!
That white dot up there is the mark for the trail!
