Thank you all for taking part in the 2007 ice out contest.

Hi John,
Taziki has been around. He (or maybe she) was Amy’s bird in Kirkland, WA, mine in San Jose, CA and is now living an exciting life with Stephanie Los Angeles.

Susan’s dog had six puppies the other day. Her granddaughters were there to view the birth. One, observing one of the pups nursing, said very concerned “Puppy biting mommy.” Sue intervened, thought quickly, and explained “No, puppy loving mommy”!

Courtney sent along some pictures of her puppy (see also “OUR ANIMALS” above):

More manatees here in my front yard – it is hard to catch them, they appear and disappear in one second:

The tail.

The nose!

Dawn in my backyard:

Three Kick Rule
A big city lawyer went duck hunting in rural Georgia. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer’s field on the other side of a fence. As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing.

The litigator responded, “I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now I’m going to retrieve it.”

The old farmer replied, “This is my property, and you are not coming over here.”

The indignant lawyer said, “I am one of the best trial attorneys in the United States and, if you don’t let me get that duck, I’ll sue you and take everything you own.” The old farmer smiled and said, “Apparently, you don’t know how we settle disputes in Georgia. We settle small disagreements like this; with the ‘Three Kick Rule.'”

The lawyer asked, “What is the Three Kick Rule?”

The Farmer replied, “Well, because the dispute occurs on my land, first I kick you three times and then you kick me three times and so on back and forth until someone gives up.” The attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old codger. He agreed to abide by the local custom.

The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the attorney. His first kick planted the toe of his heavy steel toed work boot into the lawyer’s groin and dropped him to his knees. His second kick to the midriff sent the lawyer’s last meal gushing from his mouth. The lawyer was on all fours when the farmer’s third kick to his rear end sent him face-first into a fresh cow pie. The lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his feet. Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, “Okay, you old fart. Now it’s my turn.”

The old farmer smiled and said, “naw, I give up. You can have the duck.”

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
“Tomorrow” I say! “I will call on Jim
Just to show that I’m thinking of him.”
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner, yet miles away,
“Here’s a telegram sir,” “Jim died today.”
And that’s what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

I am glad Jim and I play chess once a week!

Tracey:

Hi Uncle John,

Sadly we will be unable to make the family reunion this year – in case the news hasn’t spread to all the relatives, we are expecting our second child in mid-August. As much as I’d love to see everyone, the coast of Maine is just a little further than I’d like to be from home in the event this one is early! Since 2008 is scheduled for my parents’ place, we’ll have no excuse next year. 🙂

Tracey

Justin:
Hey Uncle John, where are you planning the get to together? If it is in
August my wife, girls and I will be flying in between August 1- 10, if that
makes a difference in the planning. I will have confirmed dates within the
the next few weeks. Thanks for posting my stuff on the web, it was cool!

Justin

David:

John,

We will be tied up the last weekend in July, the 28th & 29th, but the 4th of August looks good.

Daniel sent an email regarding our get-together this summer:

John,

No plans yet,

We just got some more snow and we’re all ready to end it all….no more, we’re done. Try to convince me there’s “Global Warming”, I don’t think so…..

Last week in July, first week of August I’ll have vacation time. I guess any time anyone wants to come, we’ll make time. We would have a spare bedroom for Dad and Betty. Campground just down the street, motels and cabins in the area, probably upwards of $100.00 a night for a room, $35.00-$50.00 a night for campsite.

The train goes as far north as Portland Maine, 3 hours driving away from us. Small airport (KBHB) with regular commercial service to and from Boston across the street, Bangor International (KBGR) 45 minutes away, both with car rentals available. Lobsters selling for over $15.00 a pound right now, usually only half that. Sightseeing flights (free) around Acadia National Park available weather permitting, Lobstering with Trevor, hikes, bike rides, kayaking in the Park and all the miniature golf you want. All self entertainment.

Tuesday was my 18th Angel Flight, Presque Isle to Boston. Patient was from Madawaska….., ay.

Left BHB at 5:00 AM and saw the sunrise over New Brunswick from 5000 ft. Took this with my camera phone. Small, but hopefully you get it.

Still working towards a goal of 100, currently at number 82.
Dan

I think that it amazing that Dan is closing in on 100 angel Flights!!

David and Jean sent another email:

Here are today’s pictures of the lake. No open water at all! Out of sixteen contestants we have nine still in the running. It will have to thaw very quickly today if one of them is to win! Sorry Peter.

My guess of April 5 was way off already! Sure are beautiful pictures though!!

It is pretty nice weather out here in Colorado, below freezing at night, and 40’s and 50’s during the days. I have been super busy at work trying to get a Primavera schedule done in time, it is due tomorrow! I have a little left to do tonight then we are all meeting tomorrow morning to iron out any wrinkles and enter another set of data, then print and go!
