Enthusiasm is the element of success in everything. It is the light that leads and the strength that lifts people on and up in the great struggles of scientific pursuits and of professional labor. It robs endurance of difficulty, and makes pleasure of duty.
–Bishop Doane

I cannot believe how time flies! It seems only yesterday that I was working on YES stuff but it was a week ago last Saturday, then went to visit my Gal kids, then went on a date. On Sunday I played chess and then worked on a project. Monday I spent the day in Daytona and Tuesday was busy getting a neighbor’s chair repaired, Wednesday I took off work to go to court for my GAL kids in the morning and to clean and cook for my date that evening. Friday was Fiddlers, Saturday was chess with Jim in the morning and then I came to the office to work on a course RedVector asked me to write. I did not go home but stayed overnight and finished it up by mid afternoon Sunday, then I finished up repairing the chair and delivered it.

Work is going crazy, my assistant was fired this morning, the phone company has messed up our phones and we have work to do! I will be over in Daytona again Wed. and Thur.; Friday I have to teach an all day course for Hillsborough County then the weekend! With nothing planned!!

I decided to go bowling all by myself last night, I had fun, this is my score sheet:

August 15, 2002

Old Mrs. Watkins awoke one spring morning to find that the river had flooded the entire first floor of her house. Looking out of her window, she saw that the water was still rising. Two men passing by in a rowboat shouted up an invitation to row to safety with them. “No, thank you,” Mrs. Watkins replied. “The Lord will provide.”

The men shrugged and rowed on. By evening, the water level forced Mrs. Watkins to climb on top of the roof for safety. She was spotted by a man in a motorboat, who offered to pick her up. “Don’t trouble yourself,” she told him. “The Lord will provide.”

Pretty soon, Mrs. Watkins had to seek refuge atop the chimney. When a Red Cross cutter came by on patrol, she waved it on, shouting, “The Lord will provide.” So the boat left, the water rose, and the old woman drowned.

Dripping wet and thoroughly annoyed, she came through the pearly gates and demanded to speak to God. “What happened?” she cried.

“For cryin’ out loud, lady,” God said, “I sent three boats.”

I forgot, Friday Dad brought an apple pie for me, I had a big piece of it last night! He makes the best!!

August 11, 2002

Dad and Betty came over for Fiddlers Friday night, then they stayed over in my spare bedroom. Betty brought twelve of the most fantastic glass figurines of birds for me!

On Saturday morning Jim came over and took all of us for a sail!

I was the only one who got much of a sunburn, everybody else says they are fine! It was a wonderful day for a sail. Darrell called this morning offering to go for a motorcycle ride, but I had promised Jim to finish putting everything in order on the boat. Next weekend though!

Yesterday Al sent along this message:John, Why does it take so long to get the home page loaded? Sue tried for nearly 30 minutes the other night and then gave up in disgust. I just tried and gave up after 2 minutes. Do you have so much on the site that it takes that long or could it be a problem at this end. I firmly believe that the best use for this computer is target practice.  Al

Then this appeared in today’s paper:

Dad and Betty are coming over Friday night, then next September they are heading for Scotland.
Amy and Sarah are coming in October (8 to 16th).
