July 27, 2003Just a little note, I spent the entire day yesterday helping Joel move a friend of his. I can feel it in my muscles this morning, but not as much as I had thought I would! I then watched a movie from my DVD collection (it has grown to over 120). My cat Smokey is more friendly than ever this morning. He really wants to be petted, if you see some strange characters, it is him walking on the keys!! I had to start this over, he sat on the keyboard!Today about 10:15 Jim will be here for our chess marathon. Then, in the afternoon, Brad had wanted to go out for a sail, I do not think we will go this time, it is expected that the thunder showers will roll in about 4 PM. I sat out on the porch this morning eating breakfast, the weather was grand. I was watching a bird floating along, then there were two, then 20! Two ospreys kept circling, looking for their breakfast, then a few blue herons showed up. It always is interesting watching the scene outside!Tomorrow I have a meeting with one of the project managers for USF to show off a project I just finished. Hope she will like it!I think it is about time to get my next GAL case. Thinks are not as hectic as the first two months at my new job, and my FES responsibilities are not too demanding. I am the secretary for the Florida Engineering Soc. (FES), and in October I will be moved up to Treasurer.Hope your weekend is going well!

I had quite a day today! I went to RAINBOW SPRINGS!

Does this look like we are working? We had just hiked 5 miles, then had to paddle to get to the last portion of the site we are working on!

A lot of work (note the plans and survey documents we were truthing and the red mark on the tree they had located), but fun too!I had a good weekend, Saturday Carl asked me to go sailing with him, but Joel had asked first, Joel had a new computer and wanted my help  in getting it going. We got it up and running for him! Sunday I went to mom and dad’s. After church we went out to dinner as usual, then I showed them the slide show I had prepared of dad’s life, from him at age one to eighty one! I then helped dad with printing some things he had been sent, then we played cribbage until time for them to go back to church again. They left this morning to spend a month in Maine and Vermont, lucky ones!!

Dad and Betty should be half way to Maine by now. They are happy and looking forward to having fun this summer too, I guess!

Note from Dad’s Betty’s son Rod:

Dear Ones,

I have enclosed a photo of from Heidi and Paul’s wedding on July 4, 2003.

The wedding was wonderful and the weather was hot, but beautiful! I have many more photos, but have yet to print them.

To keep the download time low, I changed the photo into an 800 x 600 format. It will still make a nice 5 x 7, but not much more. I do have it larger if you are interested 🙂

Our love to all,

Rod and Jill

From Darrell:Subject: Awesome photos of Air Force C-130 releasing flares

How They Got Their Name … Angels

A photo of an Air Force C-130 releasing flares to
repel heat seeking missiles. The pattern formed
by these “decoys” is how they got their name…
Angels.

It’s truly awesome! Because maneuvers are
usually in remote areas and over water, the
general public does not get to see these
exercises..

I just hope the enemy is not advanced enough to program this “angel” pattern into their missiles to hit the apex of the the angel (the way we program ours to hit their target!). Beautiful, though!
