Nuclear Program

Out in Nevada, back in the 1940’s there were a lot of ideas put into practice for the use of the heat from nuclear material.

  1. A new Panama Canal or a canal in Alaska was envisioned, nuclear bombs placed underground could excavate it quickly.
Sedan nuclear test proved that the bomb could excavate instantly.

2. Extraction of oil and gas and other uses were envisioned.

Use of nuclear explosion to access natural gas or geothermal heat.

2. The United Kingdom (England) wanted to know the extent that cold affected a nuclear weapon as it traveled high up in the atmosphere.

The test was never carried out.

Nevada was used to train, nuclear material was hidden in make believe wrecks and trainees were sent to safely retrieve it.

The area was used for training responders to nuclear threats.

Astronauts trained there due to the terrain being similar to the moon.

The terrain was useful.

Tests were run to see the effects of the bombs on homes and vehicles, etc.

The Apple II building still stand. The milk and other fresh produce had an extended life as all bacteria and other organisms that would cause them to spoil were killed by the radiation.

Project Pluto was the design, build and test of a supersonic airplane driven by heated air, it had an unlimited range.

Using heat from nuclear material, air is heated to provide thrust.

Another project was the creation of a nuclear rocket to send astronauts to the moon or mars.
